The Reality and Illusions of Nature

This series of brightly colored watercolors reveals the reality and illusion one perceives in nature. Because most people do not live entirely within a natural environment, surrounded by the native plants and animals of their community, their experiences with nature are mostly through the filter of a window or the television screen. The strips are symbolic of those windows.

When viewing nature there are many levels of reality to be experienced. For example, when looking at the ocean's surface one may see a glassy or rough surface graced by birds and maybe an occasional fish jumping through the surface. The ocean's face also reflects the many colors in the sky from sunrise to sunset. Yet, beneath the surface are many layers of life from microscopic plankton (plant and animal life) flowing with the currents, to all the mud and rock dwelling animals and plants on the bottom.

Let these works of art open your perception to the many layers of nature.
